Job Overview

As a Senior Dairy Productivity Advisor, you will report directly to the Senior Program Manager and provide both leadership and support to a team of Dairy Productivity Advisors. Your primary mission will be to build the capacity of smallholder dairy herders, enabling them to sustainably improve the productivity, quality, and quantity of fresh milk produced.

You will also play a critical role in planning and executing project initiatives under TechnoServe’s Building Precision Dairy Models in Nigeria (BuPreDMiN) project. This initiative seeks to establish a precision, sustainable, and climate-smart local dairy value chain in Nigeria, focused on increasing farmer income, resilience, and reducing carbon emissions.

Key Responsibilities

Project Inception Phase:

• Plan and oversee the enrollment of smallholder herders into Danone’s backward integration dairy value chain.
• Collaborate with the Gender and Youth Manager and M&E team to define and monitor gender-specific KPIs.
• Develop job descriptions for local community trainers and assist operations in recruitment.
• Design frameworks to guide Dairy Productivity Advisors in forming self-help groups for training, milk aggregation, and supply.

Project Implementation Phase:

• Define roles and responsibilities for Dairy Productivity Advisors, aligning with TechnoServe’s mission and values.
• Guide scaling efforts for herder enrollment into the Danone value chain.
• Monitor and update gender-related KPIs.
• Lead capacity-building efforts for Local Community Trainers in dairy best practices.
• Provide leadership and adaptive management for the Dairy Productivity Advisors.
• Partner with the Milk Collection Centre (MCC) Manager to address quality and quantity issues at collection points.
• Facilitate relationships with financial institutions to address herders’ financial inclusion.
• Engage with input suppliers to ensure cost-effective access to high-quality inputs.
• Coordinate with the MCC Manager to mobilize milk supply and organize regular community town halls.
• Support M&E in gathering data, success stories, and conducting surveys.
• Assist in preparing reports for donors and internal teams on a regular basis.
• Design templates for data collection and ensure Dairy Advisors maintain accurate herder records.
• Maintain a risk register and update it regularly.
• Represent TechnoServe at official meetings and functions.
• Perform other responsibilities aligned with project goals and organizational needs.

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree or HND in Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, Agribusiness, or related fields with minimum 5 years relevant experience (including 3+ years in the livestock value chain).
• OR Master’s degree in the above fields with 3 years’ experience, including 2+ years in livestock value chain management in Western Nigeria.
• Proven understanding of Nigeria’s dairy industry and value chain.

• Skilled in community mobilization and conflict resolution.
• Competency in writing analytical reports.
• Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); knowledge of AppSheet or similar tools is a plus.

Languages Required

• English (spoken and written)
• Yoruba (spoken)
• Hausa and Fulfulde are considered added advantages.

Travel Requirement

• Up to 40% travel within Ogun, Osun, and Oyo States.
