We are currently hiring for the position below:
Position Summary: Senior Specialist – Women and Youth
The Senior Specialist – Women and Youth will play a critical role in implementing economic empowerment strategies for adolescent girls and young women in Nigeria under the SAY WEE project. This includes offering technical support, building local capacity, ensuring safeguarding practices are in place, and leading inclusive program development that supports women and youth economic empowerment.
This role will report directly to the Program Manager and work closely with the Nigeria Gender Manager and the Global Practice for Women and Youth.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support & Economic Empowerment Initiatives
- Design and implement women- and youth-responsive activities to promote inclusive economic opportunities and ensure protection from exploitation, abuse, and harassment.
- Integrate safeguarding mechanisms into all program elements to uphold safety and dignity for staff, partners, and participants.
- Deliver strategic guidance on youth and gender integration and ensure program alignment with TechnoServe’s Economic Opportunities for All Policy.
- Lead assessments and stakeholder meetings to improve program inclusivity and participation for adolescent girls and young women.
Capacity Building & Safeguarding
- Facilitate training sessions (including Training of Trainers) for staff and partners on safeguarding, PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse), and survivor-centered response approaches.
- Build internal and community-based capacity in ethical reporting and accountability frameworks.
- Collaborate with HR to embed safeguarding policies into recruitment and hiring practices.
Monitoring, Reporting & Compliance
- Track program progress on gender and youth inclusion, ensuring integration of safeguarding risk assessments in reporting.
- Support planning and budgeting for safeguarding components of the program.
- Ensure timely reporting of safeguarding violations and protect the safety of survivors and whistleblowers.
- Lead periodic reviews and partner compliance checks related to safeguarding and protection standards.
Cross-Collaboration & Learning
- Contribute to global learning through the Gender Champions Network and maintain engagement with TechnoServe’s Global Practice for Women and Youth.
- Share best practices in women’s empowerment, safeguarding, and youth development.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in International Development, Sociology, International Affairs, or a related field plus at least 5 years’ experience in accountability, safeguarding, child protection, or gender-based violence prevention.
(OR) Master’s degree with 3 years of relevant experience. - At least 1 year of experience in developing and implementing accountability and safeguarding strategies across organizational levels.
- Proven success in supporting organizational change and policy rollout related to protection and safeguarding.
- Strong background in delivering capacity-building and training initiatives focused on women’s economic empowerment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with an INGO in Nigeria.
- Participation or leadership in PSEA, child safeguarding, or corruption investigations.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
- Deep commitment to gender equality, human rights, and safeguarding principles.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proven capacity to work autonomously and adapt quickly in dynamic environments.
- High proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Comfortable with digital tools including Google Drive.
